Dameya Holsteins - The Schneider Family

Dameya Holsteins – The Schneider Family

“What we love most about organic farming is seeing our livestock grazing and roaming free,” says Cyril Schneider of his 35 milking cows. Cyril, his wife Myriam and their three children arrived in Canada from Europe in 1999 looking for a farm with “nice green pastures”. They found it near a small village in Eastern Ontario.

Today the Schneider family farm, Dameya Holsteins, is widely recognized as a top breeder of Red Holsteins, with a goal of raising strong, healthy and long-lasting cows that produce good milk while feeding primarily on forage.

“We breed Red Holsteins because their red coats allow them to better tolerate the summer heat and sun,” says Cyril. The well-being of the cows is vital to the Schneiders, who renovated almost their entire barn to make their herd more comfortable. Dameya Holsteins received the first pick-up of its organic milk in May 2008.
