Our Organic Farmers
Meet some of the faces behind Organic Meadow...
Odilia Osthaus always wanted to be a farmer. Growing up in Sreiburd, Germany, it was an unusual ambition for a woman. But it wasn’t unusual to choose organic farming. So when Odilia found a 200 acre farm near Durham, Ontario 20 years ago, going organic was the obvious choice.
Harry and Jeannie Peeters’ organic journey began 20 years ago on their family farm near Lindsay, Ontario. Harry’s father purchased the 350 acres of land in 1958 with a commitment to using the “natural blessings” of the farm: good soil, good crops and good cattle. When Harry and Jeannie took the farm over, they too were not interested in chemically-enhanced farming and, in 2001, completed their official transition to organic milk production.
